10. Mother Redcap

Seven men are each frightened to death just by looking out of an old pub window. A High Court judge is murdered in a locked and guarded room.

How the bejeezus do you explain these two things?

Maddie becomes embroiled in the former after going for dinner with a nudist, and Jonathan is strongarmed into assisting with the latter by the cantankerous D.I. Ken Speed.

We analyse the story, dig up some location information and track down some breathtaking real-world connections to details in the show.

Once again, long-dead William Topaz McGonagall (perhaps the world’s shittest ever poet) resurrects himself from the grave to watch the episode and pen some doggerel about it.

Mother Redcap was the sixth and final episode of the second series of Jonathan Creek, airing on 28th February 1998.

Written by David Renwick and directed by Keith Washington, guest stars included Brian Murphy, Leonard Kavanagh, Georgine Anderson, Nicola Walker and Marcus Gilbert.

For some or indeed all your household needs, check out Labour and Wait, nowadays based in the old Mother Redcap pub.
